Privacy policy
Last updated: 1 November 2026
This policy covers RollaPolla at rollapolla.com. In short: you can create polls and vote without telling us who you are. What you write in a poll or a chat is stored so others can see it, and is deleted automatically. Usage statistics (Google Analytics) and ads (Google AdSense) run only if you agree, and you can change your mind at any time with “Privacy settings” at the bottom of every page. RollaPolla sells no data.

Write to this address with any question about your data or to use your rights (section 9).
2. Loading the site (hosting)
The site is delivered by Firebase Hosting and its pages are put together by Cloud Functions for Firebase in Google's Warsaw region (europe-central2). The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. When you open a page, these servers process your IP address, the date and time, the page asked for and details of your browser and operating system, as they need to in order to send you the page. We analyse no access logs.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in delivering the site securely and reliably.
3. Storage on your device
RollaPolla keeps in your browser's local storage:
- which option you voted for in which poll, so the poll shows your vote and its results right away,
- your answers to the questions about usage statistics and ads (sections 5 and 6),
- once you create a poll, vote or write in a chat: your sign-in with Firebase Authentication (section 4), kept by Firebase in the browser's IndexedDB.
This storage is strictly necessary for the service you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). RollaPolla sets no cookies of its own; Google Analytics and Google AdSense set theirs only with your consent. You can delete all of it at any time by clearing the stored data of rollapolla.com in your browser's site settings.
4. Polls, votes, chats and accounts
Polls, votes and chats are stored in Cloud Firestore, sign-ins in Firebase Authentication (both from Google Ireland Limited, address as in section 2).
Your account
The first time you create a poll, vote or write in a poll's discussion, RollaPolla signs you in anonymously: Firebase gives your browser an account with a random identifier. It names no person; we cannot tell who is behind it. Your polls and votes are kept under that identifier.
You can sign in with Google if you like, which you need for the lobby chat. Your anonymous account then becomes your Google account, so your polls and votes stay yours. Firebase then receives from Google your name, email address, profile picture and Google account identifier. The site shows your name and picture in its header, and your name next to your chat messages. Signing out ends the sign-in on this device.
Polls
A poll holds its question and answers as you wrote them, the vote counts, when it was created and when it closes, and the identifier of your account. A public poll appears on the home page and in the search; a private one only to those who have its link. Anyone who opens a poll sees its question, answers and results, and can vote. A poll is deleted automatically 30 days after it was created; you can delete your own polls earlier. RollaPolla's own featured polls run until the next 1 January.
Votes
Your vote is stored with your account identifier and the answer you chose, so you can vote only once, and is deleted with its poll. Others see only the counts, never who voted for what.
Chats
A poll's discussion takes messages from anyone signed in, the lobby chat only from visitors signed in with Google. A message is stored with your account identifier and, if you signed in with Google, your Google name, and everyone can read it with that name. Messages in a poll's discussion are deleted with the poll, messages in the lobby after 7 days.
Moderation
The site's administrators can delete polls and chat messages that break the law or the rules of decent behaviour, and they see the list of accounts with name, email address and picture, so they can keep the site running and act on abuse.
Legal basis and retention
Storing your polls, votes, messages and account is necessary to provide the service you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); moderating it is our legitimate interest in a safe site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Polls, votes and messages are deleted as described above. An account stays until you ask us to delete it (section 9); deleting it deletes its polls and votes as well.
Google may process data in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so the transfer relies on the European Commission's adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR), and in addition on standard contractual clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).
5. Usage statistics (Google Analytics), only with your consent
If you agree to usage statistics, RollaPolla uses Google Analytics (provider: Google Ireland Limited, address as in section 2) to see which pages and features are used, so we can improve them. Without your consent the site loads nothing from Google Analytics and sends nothing there.
With your consent, RollaPolla sends Google Analytics:
- which pages you open, as patterns without identifiers (“/poll/:pollId” instead of a poll's address) and without the part after “?” and “#”, so neither a poll's link nor your search text is sent,
- what you do: creating, editing and deleting a poll (how many answers, public or private), voting (how many answers the poll has, whether it is a featured poll), sharing a poll or the site (and through which service), opening a poll from a list (which list, which place), sorting the list, signing in with Google, writing a chat message (which chat), opening a poll that no longer exists, and a vote that failed,
- whether you are signed in, anonymously or with Google.
Google Analytics collects technical details itself: your IP address, from which it derives your approximate location and which, according to Google, it does not store, a random identifier of your browser in the cookies “_ga” and “_ga_…” and in local storage, the type and version of your browser, operating system and device, the screen size, the page you came from, and the time and duration of use. RollaPolla never sends a poll's question or answers, chat messages, your name, email address or any identifier of you or a poll. Ad features and Google signals are switched off; the statistics are not linked to a Google account. What you do before you answer the question is kept in memory only and sent once you agree; if you decline, it is dropped.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). Google processes the data on our behalf and deletes it after 2 months; for transfers to the USA see section 4.
6. Ads (Google AdSense), only with your consent
If you agree to ads, RollaPolla loads the ad script of Google AdSense (pagead2.googlesyndication.com; provider: Google Ireland Limited, address as in section 2), which may show ads on its pages. Without your consent the script does not load: Google receives nothing from it, and you see no ads.
With your consent, Google and its partners receive your IP address and details of your browser and device, and may use cookies and similar techniques (such as “__gads”, “__gpi” and “__eoi”) to deliver ads, to measure them and, where you allow it in Google's own consent window, to choose them by your interests. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). How Google uses this data: How Google uses information from sites that use its services. For transfers to the USA see section 4.
7. Changing your choices
“Privacy settings” at the bottom of every page, and the button here, open the question again: you can agree to or withdraw each purpose on its own, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). When you withdraw, the site stops sending usage statistics and asks for no more ads, and deletes the cookies of Google Analytics and Google AdSense on rollapolla.com. Cookies that Google keeps on its own domains are managed in Google's ad settings.
8. Fonts and icons
Fonts and icons come with the site itself; nothing is loaded from Google Fonts or other third parties for them.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to
- access your data (Art. 15),
- rectification (Art. 16) and erasure (Art. 17),
- restriction of processing (Art. 18),
- data portability (Art. 20),
- object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21),
- withdraw a consent for the future (Art. 7(3)), as in section 7.
To have your account and its polls deleted, write to the address in section 1 and tell us the email address of your Google account. An anonymous account only has a random identifier that we cannot link to you (Art. 11 GDPR); clearing your browser's data ends your access to it, and its polls and votes are deleted with their polls. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live (Art. 77 GDPR).
10. Changes
When RollaPolla starts to process other data, we update this policy. The version on this page applies. Back to RollaPolla
